I don't have any relatives who served, except for my father. He was in the Air Force at age 19 in the Vietnam War. He was one of the luckier ones, since he never had to go out into the field. He still tells me to this day, however, that the things his friends described were awful.
I can't imagine the fear and terror of being out there. It's sad to think that most teenagers don't have a slight interest of what it's like. It fascinates me; the way the army works, and how veterans are so great. All the different people risking their lives for a country where most of the youth doesn't care. It's a sad thing to ponder on.
Like I said, my father served. I might have other relatives before my time that served, but I have no recollection of them. I want so badly to talk with a veteran, and listen to all they can tell me about the wars. People don't realize that veterans are all around you. When you're in the store, mindlessly browsing, a veteran could be standing right next to you. While you're driving home on the freeway, a veteran could be in the truck beside you. I beg, that if you ever see somebody, wearing a U.S veterans' hat or jacket, please thank them. It might mean the word to them, that somebody is thankful for the risk they had put their lives into.
